Ten Global Food and Beverage Titans

The Dow Jones Food & Beverage Titans 30 Index represents the leading global companies in the Food & Beverage sector. The components of this index are selected based on rankings by float-adjusted market capitalization, revenue and net profit.

Since this is a defensive sector, the index was down only about 26% last year – which is relatively lower than the performance of other sectors  such as financials or the overall market. The 5-year annual return of this index is about 9%. As of November 30,2009 the index is up about 27% and the dividend yield is 2.10%.

1. S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats Index

This index “measures the performance of large cap, blue chip companies within the S&P 500 that have followed a policy of increasing dividends every year for at least 25 consecutive years.”

2.The S&P High Yield Dividend Aristocrats Index

This index tracks “the performance of the 50 highest dividend yielding S&P Composite 1500 constituents which have followed a managed dividends policy of consistently increasing dividends every year for at least 25 years.”

3. The S&P/TSX Canadian Dividend Aristocrats Index

This index measures “the performance of S&P Canada Broad Market Index (BMI) constituents that have followed a managed-dividends policy of consistently increasing dividends every year for at least five years.”

4. The S&P Pan Asia Dividend Aristocrats Index

This index tracks “the performance of constituents within the S&P Pan Asia Broad Market Index (BMI) that have followed a policy of consistently increasing dividends every year for at least seven years. This index is a member of the S&P Dividend Aristocrats index series.”

5. The S&P Europe 350 Dividend Aristocrats Index

This index aims to measure “the performance of S&P Europe 350 index constituents that have followed a policy of consistently increasing dividends every year for at least 10 consecutive years, have a float-adjusted market capitalization of at least US$ 3 billion and have an average daily trading volume of at least US$ 5 million.”

Ten Emerging Markets Financials Titans

Emerging market financials have performed very well this year. After remaining resilient during the past year’s credit crisis they showed their strength when the global markets rebounded in the first quarter this year. Valuations of emerging market stocks have stretched after the strong run-up in the past few months. However compared to the developed world, emerging markets are projected to have higher growth in 2010. One of the key sectors that benefits nicely from the economic growth in the emerging markets is the financial sector.

The Dow Jones Emerging Markets Financials Titans 30 Index represents 30 of the largest emerging-market companies in the Financial sector. Constituents in this index are selected based on the rankings by float-adjusted market capitalization, revenue and net profit. As of November 30,3009 the index is up 78.28%. Chinese and Brazilian financials account for about 65% of this index.
