The Top 10 Companies on the NYSE based on Market Cap

Foreign companies are increasingly gaining more attention from US investors. A quick review of the largest companies trading in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) shows that 8 of the top 10 companies based on market cap are foreign companies.

The Top 10 Companies on the NYSE by Market Cap:

2. PetroChina (PTR)
Market Cap: $237B

3. BHP Billiton(BHP)
Market Cap:$222B

4.Petrobras (PBR)
Market Cap:$210B

5.HSBC Holdings (HBC)
Market Cap:$206B

6. Wal-Mart Stores(WMT)
Market Cap:$203B

7.China Mobile (CHL)
Market Cap:$191B

8. Royal Dutch Shell plc(RDS.A)
Market Cap: $190B

9. BHP Billiton plc (BBL)
Market Cap:$187B

10. BP Plc (BP)
Market Cap: $186B

The US oil giant Exxon Mobil has the largest market cap at $329B. The only other US company in this list the world’s largest employer Wal-Mart(WMT) at $203B. None of the  US banks have market caps in the $200B range.

The three emerging market companies in the list are China Mobile, Petrobras and Petro-China. Among the financials only HSBC Holdings of UK comes in at number five with a total market cap of $206B. Seven of the companies listed here are from the energy or mining industries.
